Under the Table

"But even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs" - Mark 7:28

Hungry for anything ... just a crumb will suffice.
Feeling unworthy. Afraid. The eyes of others scrutinize in my mind.
Dressed in tattered rags next to princely fabrics of extravagant gifts and talents.
I cannot compare.
No longer wanting to sit at His table. I just want my King.

Broken and humbled, I slip under.
A dog, desiring simple crumbs.
The majestic wood hides me from their eyes searching mine.
My King whispers to my heart and joy trickles in my soul.
Crawling past fancy shoes and well worn feet fitted with the gospel of peace.
I reach feet adorned with scars of nail.

Kissing, washing with grateful tears.
All of my affections placed in a bottle,
to break at His feet.

Under the table, clutching just His feet.
Eyes closed tight, the unimaginable happens.
My King slips from His royal chair.
Leaving His rightful place of honor,
He crawls under the table.
Just to be with me.

For days I linger in this place.
Wrapped in His love, and in my unworthy state of heart
Prayers, tears, pain exposed, freedom released.
He beckons me to come out.

Glancing down my tattered rags replaced
Royal garments spun in blood red forgiveness
A place at the wedding feast, set for me, His princess.
Escorted, I am free to take my place
To reign in His kingdom with my King.

Worthy or not, He will meet you. He will hold you. Reach out, grab the hem of His garment. Boldly come in and wash His feet with your tears regardless of those who stare. Climb under the table like me and just sit at His feet. My life this week, a testimony. However you come, He will meet you.

This is so touching, Sarah Dawn.

Again the words from your heart have penetrated deep into my heart...and speak peace, love, acceptance and hope.

I am praying for you right now, as you adjust to a new life back in the USA, in Arizona... and praying too that the way you were enriched by your life in Costa Rica will in turn enrich the people God will send you to touch where He has sent you.

Love
Lidj

Jeremiah 52:33
So Jehoiachin put aside his prison clothes and for the rest of his life ate regularly at the king's table.

Putting aside my prision clothes...and accepting His invitation to eat regularly at the King's table.

Amazing God. Most Gracious Host.

Oh Precious Broken Gift - your words ignite the light within me to shine brighter, bolder, and become far reaching to other hurting and wanting to touch the hem of peace, hope, joy, love -where they can find rest!

I long to sit at His table and to wash His feet with my tears of gratefulness for all that He has given me and done for me. How can I ever thank YOU O'LORD?

Hugs and much love Sarah!

Broken and humbled ...that's right where we need to be. That's something I'm learning right now, as you now know. But then we can be molded and shaped as a vessel useful for His purposes.

Sarah Dawn, how you splashed all over me yesterday. And I'm so grateful. I'm so glad to call you friend.

Love,
Debbie

Such a penetrating thought: waiting beneath the table for but a few scraps. It may sound beggarly (if not entirely idiotic) to the world; but we that love Him know that even the scraps are a banquet in His kingdom!

Blessings,
Kathleen

So wonderful to meet you, too! Such a powerful picture is etched in my mind as I am under the table with the real battles I struggle with but a stronger desire to just be near my Lord. To know He accepts me right where I am, that He willingly and lovingly wants to be with me blows my mind and shows me my worth to Him. What amazing love! Thank you so much for this post!

Amen...we should be all under the table...constantly. Prayers are needed for my children who are fighting to stay "lights" in a dark world...prayers for hedges of protection in their classes and with their peers. Thanks. Blessings

Beautiful:)

Thank you for leaving a comment on my blog. Your words of encouragment were a blessing.

BTW, I'm a pastor's wife, and my greatest fear was that God would call my husband to the mission field abroad. God bless you for doing what my heart has feared. May God remove all fear and replace is with His strength and boldness.

Sarah, I whispered a prayer that sounds so much like your beautiful post. I always feel like the least of His children, the chief of sinners, so unworthy of the grace and love He has showered on me.
Your words minister to my spirit. The Father has given you the gift of such a loving heart. Thank you for faithfully serving and sharing your heart.

This poem took my breath away...this line needs to be on a plaque in my room
"Crawling past fancy shoes and well worn feet fitted with the gospel of peace.
I reach feet adorned with scars of nail"

May I copy this poem (with credit of course) to use in the curriculum I am writing for my womens small group study on prayer and drawing closer to Christ?

You never fail to delight me my sister!!
