Song of My LIfe

A song bubbled from my spirit as I was washing dishes. The suds still on my hands, I sat with my journal to pour out my heart before the Lord. This spilled forth. I have asked for Him to go deeper in my life. He is beautifully answering.

"The notes have been too pretty. A song arising from my spirit.
A tune of anguish, sorrow, chords of contentment lingering.

I want my life to be a song of your praise. But my music sounds like the world.
I've been seduced by contentment. My melody wrapped in mediocrity.

A refrain of staleness playing over and over and over and over and over

Rip the sheet music away. Write only your song on my heart.
No more pretty music. No more chords that please the ear.
I want to be the notes that pierce hearts.

Give me your tune. A song of triumph, exhortation and warfare.
A life that makes the enemy shudder when he hears my melody.
Notes mingled with your Spirit, strong, loud, setting captives free.

The song of my life set to the tune of my King."

The Lord desires to co-create with us, writing our songs. What notes does He long to write on the chorus of your heart?

Wow...beautiful. What a beautiful, passionate and courageous prayer to our King! I love it...and dare to echo it.

I am just getting ready to start reading Nancy Leigh DeMoss "Brokenness, Surrender and Holiness". I am thinking He's got some major things to teach me through this Bible study trilogy!

I told you that I would come back and read your blog.

I did.

I splashed around while I was here.

Splashed in His love. His glory. His grace.

I heard your song. His song.

And I thought about my fragile faith.

And how He wants more than that from me. Deserves so much more than what I've been giving Him.

I want to follow Him. Wherever. Whenever. However.

He chooses.

Blessed be the name of the Lord!

Sweet dreams, Sarah Dawn.

Sarah Dawn,
As usual, your writing gave me goose bumps. It reminded me of the passage in Revelation that talks about the song of Moses. Maybe someday in Heaven you and Moses can write music together!

XOXO,
Jennifer Henderson

They held harps given them by God and sang the song of Moses the servant of God and the song of the Lamb:
"Great and marvelous are your deeds,
Lord God Almighty.
Just and true are your ways,
King of the ages.
Who will not fear you, O Lord,
and bring glory to your name?
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come
and worship before you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed."

I want Jesus to be the soundtrack of my life -- that everywhere I walk I would drop reminders of His Heartsong inside of me, so that others will want to sing along.

Oh Sarah Dawn, how He loves to have us dream with Him about His Kingdom! And oh, how He loves to bring these dreams to fulfillment! Piercing hearts, setting captives free--these things are happening and will continue to happen through your beautiful, bold love for our King!

Blessings,
Sarah

Sarah Dawn,
Thanks for coming by my blog. It was so nice to stop here for a visit.

I love your post and wholeheartedly agree. "The song of my life set to the tune of my King." Amen to that! How I want to strip off the ordinary and embrace the extraordinary. Exchange the good for the godly. And the popular for the princely.

Blessings,
Kelli

In Revelation 14:2 the apostle John tries to describe the sound of heaven, as he heard it in his vision:

"And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps."

Three times John uses a simile ("like") to describe the sound of heaven. It was like, first, the roar of rushing waters. Niagara Falls. Sustained intensity. It was like, secondly, a loud peal of thunder. Kaboom! Dramatic percussion. It was like, thirdly, harpists playing their harps. Tender loveliness. And the sound of heaven was/is all three sounds mingled together as one.

We have never heard such a sound. C. S. Lewis was right. This is "the silent planet." We do know what a waterfall sounds like, what a thunderclap sounds like, even what an orchestra of harpists might sound like. So the similes work. But we have never heard it all mixed together into one coherent whole. Someday we will hear it. Someday we will be a part of it, as we sing a new song before the throne (Revelation 14:3).

I wonder what it will be like to become capable of sustained intensity, dramatic percussion and tender loveliness, all at once, forever, as the celebration of God's glory pours out of us.

The last few days when I awake the song "I have a neverending love for you"...don't really like country...has been singing over me. He sure has a sense of humor!

Love the post. This month 3 different times at completely different kinds of gatherings, the word of the Lord has been that it is time to dig new wells.

As I've prayed for how that applies to my life, this post has given even greater insight. Amazing how he uses the details in our life...

Splashing glory with you,

I like what you wrote. A song that pierces hearts not pleases our senses. That is so crucial.

I think God is working on my settling for the world running my life. Oh dear, what an awful thought, but so needed to be thought and now worked on.

Thanks for sharing your true heart.

Such beautiful words the Lord has given you. I love how you wrote that He wants to co-create with us a song on our heart. I think mine would be about trusting enough to open up my heart fully to Him. I'm going through the 7 days of laying it all down with Lisa Shaw and this keeps coming up in me.

BTW, I think Lexi should go to college in AZ too. And then you and I could keep an eye on her for Jill.

Love you,
Debbie

Sarah Dawn,

I just had to click on your name from your comment on my blogsite, especially since we visited Costa Rica last year.

Your words move me to tears! I need to go deeper with God, and this is the place to do it. Sometimes I feel so foolish for my silly blogsite, but yet that is what God called me to do.

You are a beautiful woman! May God richly bless your ministry.

I tried to sign up as a follower here, but it wouldn't go through for some reason. But know that I am a follower of Jesus with you.

Blessings,
