Adoption Through the Eyes of A Child

Caleb, giving his toys, sharing his love!

Tucking my 4 year old into bed, we snuggled and prayed. Bedtime brings a sweetness to the surface and spills into my heart. The other night, we talked about adoption, our adoption, and began to dream. With a sparkle in his eye, he told me his plan.

Mommy, when we bring our children home from Ethiopia, we'll teach them about Jesus. Then, when they grow up they will go back to Ethiopia and share Jesus with their family. Everyone in their family will know about Jesus and tell everybody else. The whole country will know about Jesus so they will have to be missionaries and go to other countries.

My young son, I never quite looked at adoption in this way, through the faith filled eyes of a child. I've heard it said "adoption won't change the world, but it will change the world for a child." Maybe, just maybe, both are true.

Beautiful.

Children have the biggest hearts. My daughter has been fasinated with Asia since she was little. She is twelve but tells me often that one day she is going to adopt a little girl from China. "I can make a differnce in that little girl's life." When your children say beautiful things like that, it is like receiving a "hug" from heaven.

Enjoy being "hugged."

Sounds like your son may have a prophetic gift. He certainly knows how to catch the vision of evangelism...and think BIG! I love it.

I have a sweet Christian friend who adopted an older child recently from Ethiopia...long story short, things aren't going so well. They are having a very rough time. Since your heart is in Ethiopia, if you think of my friend (Kelli), please pray for their situation.

Thanks.

I sure hope that he is right. That would be wonderful if all adoptions worked out like that. What a ministry. I never thought of it that way either. Your son has a vision...
Thank you for popping by my blog today. I love your blog!

I love this! As I said before, I think your Joshua and my Gabrielle have the same heart for orphans and the Lord. She prays every night for God to lead us to adoption if that is His will for our family. We have told her that we trust God to make that clear for us if it is His will for our family. Until then, we take care of orphans in other ways.

God is so good. Thank you for sharing the heart of your precious.

"He tends His sheep like a shepherd. He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart. He gently leads those who have young." Isaiah 40:11

Thanks for coming over to visit. I had to come see where you were a missionary! I am excited to have met you.

This post is so sweet. Our children can catch our vision and sometimes we have to catch theirs. What a wonderful way to look at adoption!

Sarah,
Wonderful blogpage! I have been enjoying reading the last 5 blogposts of yours! Your two sons, Joshua and Caleb, look truly like wonderful kids.

It is truly beautiful that you and your husband are working on adopting two from Etheopia. This picture of one of them giving Caleb a toy is a treasure.

Honestly, when I am married someday (first have to recognize the man Father places into my life and fall in love with him), if for whatever reason I cannot biologically have children (which I most certainly hope isn't the case), I will adopt. I believe it is such a beautiful thing to adopt one into the family.

My mother was a Social Worker and for a season worked to help parents adopt foster children. I saw, through her, the entire spiritual connection Earthly adoption has on a family (wonderful!!) and how this relates to Father's adoption of us by our faith and relationship with Jesus.

Anyways, I have added your page to my Feed Reader, and have also added you to my Blogroll!

Blessings,
~Amy :)

Sarah,
This is so very sweet. It is just amazing to me how early children understand spiritual things. They are so much more aware than we realize. Thanks for sharing this. It really touched my heart.

So happy to hear that you are all doing well after such an emotional time. Wow--those of priceless words out of the mouth of your babe. So precious, so priceless, such joy to your mommy heart.
We recently baptized our older two sons. What an incredible moment. I so understand every feeling and emotion that goes with our children making such a big decision for Jesus.
Praying you are getting some much needed rest after your whirlwind time in the USA.

Sending you huge hugs and many blessings.

The wisdom of children absolutely astounds me. From such a young age, they can grasp spiritual truths that many adults struggle with.

What sweet words for a mother's heart. He'll do some great things for God someday!

Hugs,

Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog. I have a son named Kaleb too! (we spell ours with a K) And we are praying diligently for twins from South Korea. If it's HIS will, that is. I know that after we get our girl from S. Korea, we hope to adopt again, either Ethiopia or Uganda.

I hope your journey is very blessed and it will be fun following you!
