Love & War

(Just had to share this picture ... hope you smiled)

Hope, encouragement, tools, and a good old fashioned kick in the pants all wrapped up in a new release "Love and War" by John and Stasi Eldredge. As a family, we are more than familiar with their writings. "Wild at Heart" and "Captivating" shaped our lives. For me personally, "Captivating" remains on my top five list of books to radically transform my life. With eager anticipation, I jumped at the chance to review their new book, "Love & War; Finding the marriage you've dreamed of."

In this season of my life, I truly comprehend the war, the battle ground. I have stood in the midst of it not realizing that my marriage was under serious attack. As overseas missionaries, we focused on ministry as the bombs continued to hit our barracks. I knew how to fight for others, and repair war torn injuries on the field, but I failed to protect my own bunker.

Thankfully, we have a loving God who opened our eyes to the battle all around us. We are in the midst of guarding our marriage, rebuilding the lie bombed areas hit from the enemy, and learning to radically love again. One of our tools, "Love and War".

With raw realness, John and Stasi, fight alongside of all of us. Honesty, humor, and hope season every chapter and draw us into the greatest love story of our lives. The truth spills into our marriage and reinforces the things we knew while giving us new strategy to attack our real enemy.

The authors invite us into their marriage. The mistakes, the religious things that brought no true joy in marriage, the triumphs, the lessons they learned from the heart of God; all of it delivered with reality. In this fluff free zone, truth is shared openly and honestly. They truly understand and help us to see that "Marriage is fabulously hard." We need an understanding of this sentence and this faithful couple walk us through hand in hand, sharing the joys and utterly fabulous parts as well as the difficulties and how to walk victoriously through them.

A unique style comes to the literary table. Her thoughts. His perspective. They share the task engaging both wife and husband to come and sit, dine through their words and nourish any marriage. Wherever you are in your marriage, newlywed with starry glazed eyes, married for an eternity or allowing God to restore your marriage into His plans after 12 years, Love & War will challenge you and teach you.

You can learn more about his book here And feel free to join me in reviewing other great books (this is my first)! This book was provided for review by WaterBrook Multnomah.

I would love to hear if you have read this book as well, or any other titles that have shaped your life today! Leave a comment and share a title or few that you would encourage me to read (or others). I love getting to know you by the tidbits you leave as we splash around together.

Hi Sarah Dawn,
It has been awhile since I have left a comment but I have been reading your blog. Am so happy for you and your hubby and what the Lord has been doing in your lives. God is so good to us, and really watches out for us.
Sometimes we can get so caught up in the doing and the serving that we don't pay attention, and the enemy just loves it!
We see it happen all the time.
We have been married over 39 yrs.
and we teach marriage classes, and
we have read many books over the years, but in recent years the one that has impacted us the most
was "Love and Respect" by Emerson
Eggerichs. He has such a grasp of how ladies think and also lets you know what and how your hubby thinks, the things they don't tell
you! Course, we also got the video series he had and taught it in Sunday School, and he is a powerfully dynamic speaker and communicator.
I just saw the Eldridges on tv
a few days ago, they were talking
about their new book. It was on James Robinsons show. Sounds very good, that will probably be our next read once we finish teaching Sunday School this month.
Another book that is just amazing and what we have been teaching for 2 quarters is "lost in the middle"
midlife and the grace of god.
You are young but I think every christian needs to read this book,
cause it talks about the hard things that happen in our life and constantly points us to how much God loves us. I have read it 4 times and it has helped me so much. It is a very annointed book.
The author is a Pastor named
Paul David Tripp. I had never heard of him before, but happened to see him on a Christian program and he was talking about the book so I got it, and it was the best thing I ever did.
It has helped a lot of people, we buy them and give them away cause it is that powerful. Almost like reading your bible.
Well, before I write a novel, better go.
Blessings to you hon,

Sarah Dawn,

This book changed my life! It is on my top 10 favorite books list. I lent my copy to someone & never got it back. Which stinks since I marked that copy.

Anyway, I highly recommend this book to every woman I come across. After I had read it, my small group ladies did it as a study.

I'm ready to re-read it.

Many blessings,

Thank you for sharing, I picked this book up at the store the other day, but didn't purchase it. My husband is currently in a study with a men's group of the book Wild at Heart. It's been really great for him. :o)
I think I will go get my copy of this book. :o)

My sister has read "Captivating" and LOVED it. I have yet to read either, but they both look like 'must haves' for every married couple. Thanks for the great review! Our life is so wrapped up in our adoption process right now, that I think it's important to be vigilent and realize that it's in times like these when the enemy tries to sneak in. I will definitely be putting these on my shopping list!

Bless you, Sarah Dawn! <><

Sounds like a great read. I am going to go out and buy one.

My sweet hubby and I have been married for 27 years. Yes, marriage is fabulously hard. Great line.

Eight months ago, my husband changed careers. After 21 years in the classroom, he "hung up his chalk" and stepped into full-time ministry. The enemy has certainly attacked our marriage and family this year. Wow! It's been TOUGH!

Thanks for the book recommendation.
